Prior to joining the Crummer faculty Dr. Singleton was Vice President of Ibbotson Associates, an investment consulting firm, where he was responsible for the firm's consulting, training, and research activities. Before joining Ibbotson Associates he was Senior Vice President for Curriculum and Examinations at the CFA Institute. In this capacity he was responsible for the Chartered Financial Analyst® program's candidate curriculum and examinations. Dr. Singleton has taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of North Texas, University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary. He also served as Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas. He earned his CFA Charter in 1985 and serves as a consultant to the investment profession and Director of Indexes for PCE Investment Bankers. Dr. Singleton has published numerous articles in the leading finance journals and is the author of Core-Satellite Portfolio Management: A Modern Approach to Professionally Managed Funds, published by McGraw-Hill.

Financial Statement Analysis and Corporate Governance (ACC 606) This course explores corporate financial reporting from both an insider’s (a CFO making strategic accounting choices) and an outsider’s (a financial analyst valuing the firm) perspectives. Security Analysis and Portfolio Management (FIN 603) This course explores the world of the financial analyst and portfolio manager -- examining security markets through cases, lectures, and group projects. Students learn how to analyze securities and manage real world portfolios. The class makes extensive use of professional investment software, including Bloomberg and Morningstar. Using mutual funds as a laboratory, students learn to assess how well portfolio managers invest. Portfolio Management: Theory and Practice (FIN 609) In this course students are organized into an investment firm to manage the Crummer/SunTrust real-money portfolio. Practitioners provide guidance and students make the investment decisions after thorough security analysis and extensive portfolio research. Financial Modeling (FIN 611) This course introduces students to financial models used in practice. It is a hands-on application-oriented tour of financial models used in corporate finance, investment analysis, and portfolio management. Students construct and apply numerically intensive models to practical problems. The course makes extensive use of Excel and will teach students Visual Basic. The Chartered Financial Analyst Program at Crummer The Chartered Financial Analyst® program certifies investment professionals much like the CPA does for accounting professionals. Recognized worldwide, earning this designation can help students get a head start on careers in investments. Consult the CFA link immediately above for more information.
